Quadfest

This weekend I went to Quadfest. My roommate went home Friday night to work on Saturday. Friday night I just chilled out in the dorm. I was really tired so I took a nap from around 6 to 8 and then watched a movie I had downloaded and went to bed around 12. On Saturday I went to the Spring Game with one of my friends. I don't know if yall went but I wasn't impressed by the play. I thought our starting offense would have scored at least a field goal. Later, my roommate came back and we ended up getting a ride to Radford around 7. I had never been to Radford so I didn't know what to expect, especially since it was Quadfest. I was picturing something like the videos I had seen of JMU with thousands of people crowded together outside. We arrived in Radford and went to an apartment and hung out there for a while. It started to rain which was super annoying but we kept doing what we were doing. We ended up moving around a lot to different places. I ended up sleeping in a friend's room in one of the dorms. I really wasn't very impressed with Quadfest. It just seemed like a ton of apartment parties with a ton of people, but nothing too crazy. It didn't live up to my crazy expectations, which was slightly disappointing. By the end of the night I was annoyed because I was wet and tired. I wished I could have made it back to Tech somehow to sleep. Today (Sunday) has been extremely unproductive for me; I've been sleeping all day and not doing much of anything which irritates me. Hopefully this week won't be so bad - I don't have too much work I don't think. Good luck with the memoirs everyone!

Crawfish

So I thought my last post was for this week but as it turns out, it wasn't so I'm writing another blog.

This past weekend was super super fun. I went up to UVA to visit a bunch of my friends. I left Virginia Tech on Thursday to get an early start home. I skipped my chem class on Thursday to get home earlier which was an excellent start to the weekend. After I got home on Thursday I chilled for the most part. I got some ice cream with a friend I hadn't seen in a long time. Friday rolls around and I leave my house around 1:00-ish to head to Charlottesville. I got to my friend's dorm around 3:00. Right when I got there I had to take one of my other friends that I was staying with to his frat house. He's a pledge for KA and he had to clean the house for their annual huge party called the Crawfish. That was the reason for my going to UVA that specific weekend. After taking my friend to the frat, i went back to the dorm and hung out for a while. Later, we went to dinner and got burritos from some place on The Corner. Sometime after dinner we started playing Mario Party. This was the first time I had ever played and it was lots of fun. We ended up going out with some of our other friends to another from called ELMO. They were having a progressive-type party which just had a bunch of drinks throughout the house. After that we went to a bar which was awesome. I swear you can do anything you want at UVA!

So Saturday was Crawfish. It started at 12 and was supposed to end around 5 but people lingered at the KA house for hours past. They had tons and tons of drinks and they hired people from Louisiana to cook crawfish. It was AWESOME! After the party was over, we had some dinner and tried to go to the lacrosse game but they wouldn't let us in with student IDs and we didn't want to buy tickets so my friends and I just went back to the dorm. Later, we went out to some frats again and got back to the dorm around 3:30 or 4:00 am.

So all in all this past weekend was a blast! I always love going up to UVA - it hasn't failed me yet.

The origin of v-neck shirts

So here is my origin story from class:

Joe was a manly-man obsessed with his muscles and other manly traits. He always tried to show off his masculinity to everyone he could. Joe wore a lot of tight crew-cut t-shirts so everyone could see how big his chest was. One day Joe was admiring himself in the mirror and decided that tight shirts just weren’t enough to display his manliness. He wanted to be able to wear his tight shirts while showing off his chest hair. Joe quickly took off his shirts and cut it so the collar was shaped like a ‘v.’ He put the shirt back on and began to admire how large his chest was and how the visibility of his chest hair complemented his muscles perfectly. After creating his masterpiece, Joe went for a walk downtown to flaunt himself. His new fashion caught on quickly with other men and shirt manufacturers rapidly began creating the v-neck t-shirt.

Clash of the Titans

Last week on Wednesday night I went to Torg to watch the 1981 version of "Clash of the Titans." I did this for extra credit for my Greek and Roman Mythology class. We had to see the movie than write a one page reaction to it, which was extremely easy, of course. "Clash of the Titans" is about Perseus, a demi-god, and the tasks he has to perform to save the woman he loves and the city Argos. For example, one of the things he has to do is cut off the head of Medusa.

I enjoyed the plot of the movie but just about everything else was horrendous. Since it was made in 1981, the special effects were pretty terrible, which is expected, but the acting and dialog were also not up to par. I've never read the actual story of Perseus but I think the movie followed the story pretty closely.

This weekend I went home for Easter. While I was home, I went to see the new "Clash of the Titans" with my dad. It was pretty good. It had some good action and it was cool because there were a lot of strange beasts and things and the special effects were good. However, I did not enjoy the movie as much as I thought I would. I think this was because I had seen the older version a few days before and it seemed not to follow the real story as much as the old one. One example is that they made Pegasus a black, flying horse instead of a white, flying horse. Everyone knows that Pegasus is white! Since I had seen the older version recently, I was busy making comparisons like this one throughout the movie.

Although I did not enjoy it as much as I wanted, "Clash of the Titans" was pretty entertaining and I would recommend you see it.
